A very useful new Capsicum baccatum variety selected from a South American landrace. More compact than most baccatums due to its shorter internode length, it is also earlier and more productive. The ripe chillies are an attractive orange colour, and have a delicious fruity flavour.

Madre Vieja makes an excellent pot plant, and is, perhaps, the best baccatum variety for such use. It is pictured below as a young plant in a 3 litre pot.
